Experience is a starting point
Talk about the work you actually do: your tasks, level of responsibility, training and goals. A useful first conversation should help you understand which questions to take to a provider.
Know who is responsible
NextGen Scholars provides pathway information and enquiry support. The relevant Registered Training Organisation and its assessor are responsible for assessment decisions and qualification issuance. Ask for the provider’s details before proceeding.
Understand your commitments
Request a written outline of fees, the expected process and the requirements that apply to your chosen qualification. Ask what additional work may be needed, how to contact the provider and how its refund and complaints processes work.
RPL and credit transfer are different
RPL examines existing skills and experience. Credit transfer relates to previously completed units and requires formal records. Tell the provider about any previous qualifications or statements of attainment.
Prepare your questions
- Which exact qualification and provider are being discussed?
- What evidence and assessment activities apply to my situation?
- What will the full pathway cost, including any further training?
- What is the realistic timeframe and what could change it?
- Are there separate licensing or registration requirements?
